Dustin Dumas will share the fascinating history of her ancestors, Henry and Judy Beard, including Henry's escape from slavery to join the Union Army during the Civil War and Judy's family's experience of learning they were free in Texas two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Their story connects directly to the history commemorated by Juneteenth. Along the way, she will introduce some of the primary sources and research methods she used to uncover their story of resilience.
