Antelope Valley College's Equity & Student Achievement department will host a Juneteenth Freedom Day celebration on Tuesday, June 16, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Library Plaza between Cedar Hall and the Library. The event is open to AVC students, faculty, staff, and community members. Admission is free. Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans on June 19, 1865. The celebration recognizes this historic milestone while honoring diversity, equity and the rich cultural heritage of the African American community. Attendees can enjoy free food, fun games and live music during the campus celebration. Special performances and community activities are planned to create an engaging and welcoming experience for all. Guests are encouraged to RSVP in advance through the event registration form . The showcase will include screenings of final projects from AVC film classes. Following the screenings, audience members will have an opportunity to participate in live Q&A discussions with the student filmmakers. The event highlights the creativity, storytelling, and technical skills developed by AVC students through hands-on filmmaking projects. Community members, students, faculty, staff, friends, and family are invited to attend and support emerging filmmakers. Admission is free and open to the public. Seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Through a cohort-based model, students take classes together while receiving dedicated counseling, mentorship and academic support. Puente offers a strong sense of community, connecting students with professors, counselors and mentors who are committed to their success.
