Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, one of the most recognizable compositions in all of music, features an opening phrase that sounds the alarm for a blitz of bravado from every section of the orchestra, with its insistent rhythm playing throughout the work and lingering in listeners’ ears long after the music stops.
Santa Monica-born conductor David Robertson begins the evening with the Coriolan Overture, a Shakespearean tale of turmoil, revenge, and remorse.
He then leads Beethoven’s exuberant Triple Concerto, performed by a talented trio of young soloists: Ha-young Choi, winner of the 2022 Queen Elisabeth Competition for Cello, joins virtuosic duo pianist Sunwook Kim and violinist Clara-Jumi Kang in a must-see performance.
