“Rustic charm and orchestral wizardry soar.”

Kevin John Edusei conducts music from the ballet that catapulted Stravinsky to international stardom, “The Firebird Suite,” which draws on Russian folk tunes and tales to unlock an enchanted world of ogres, princesses, and a mesmerizing bird with flaming wings.

The night opens with another ballet suite, Armenian composer Aram Khachaturian’s richly orchestrated “Spartacus,” famous for its stirring Adagio.

Edusei then guides the LA Phil as Principal Concertmaster Martin Chalifour transports listeners to the pastoral landscapes of Khachaturian’s homeland with the composer’s folk-inspired Violin Concerto.
