The Encuentro de Jaraneros de California presents an annual festival that highlights many of California and Veracruz’s finest Son Jarocho ensembles. Jarocho musicians and dancers meet, study, share, and perform in a united celebration.

AXOLOTL
AXOLOTL is vibrant new folk ensemble to emerge in the Southern California area. A student ensemble directed by maestro Emilio Garcia, whose focus is the representation of not only the Son Jarocho but also other Mexican and Latin American folk music traditions.

CONJUNTO JARDIN
Since Conjunto Jardín’s debut in 1997, the group has had multiple performances at universities, concert series, festivals, and clubs. Conjunto Jardín is on the California Arts Council Touring Program roster and is also a CAC Multicultural Artist Program grant recipient. It has released various critically acclaimed recordings in this time and is a staple group of the son jarocho scene in Southern California.

CONJUNTO TENOCELOMEH
Since 1995 the San Fernando Valley-based TENOCELOMEH has performed at various public and community venues throughout Southern California, the United States, and Mexico. Its members have traveled abroad and studied with various masters in Mexican folk music and given various lectures at colleges and universities on the Son Jarocho. Its members are professional musicians and educators who have wholeheartedly decided to concentrate on, preserve, and perform the beautiful folk music and dance traditions of southern Veracruz known as the Son Jarocho.

CONJUNTO XI
Conjunto Xi, formerly known as Conjunto Xoloitzcuintli, is focused on performing for schools in the city of Los Angeles and other community-oriented events. The ensemble performs the music from the state of Veracruz, Sones Huastecos and Jarochos.

SON DE SAN DIEGO
Son de San Diego is a musical ensemble based in San Diego, California, that specializes in the folk tradition of Son Jarocho, the regional style of Veracruz, Mexico. They perform using traditional instrumentation such as jarana, guitarra de son, and various string and percussion instruments. Son de San Diego works to preserve and share the cultural and musical heritage of the Veracruz son tradition, connecting audiences in the U.S. with this vibrant folk genre. Their performances serve as both entertainment and cultural education, fostering cross-border links and heritage awareness.

SON REAL
Son Real is a collective of musicians dedicated to using their art to support the various struggles of the immigrant community in Southern California. Based in the Inland Empire area, the collective participates with their music in marches, protests, demonstrations, and social events in support of social justice causes and the human rights of the immigrant community. Through its members, the collective performs traditional music from different regions of Latin America using traditional instruments and also performs music with social themes and songs from the Nueva Canción Latinoamericana movement.
