About:

With an elevation of 3,651 feet, Saddleback Butte is a towering granite mountaintop that rises some thousand feet above the Antelope Valley basin that exists on the western edge of the Mojave Desert, about fifteen miles east of Lancaster. Created in 1960, the state park surrounding Saddleback Butte was built to protect the butte, the native Joshua Tree woodlands and plants and animals that were once abundant in the high desert region.
