The Lancaster Museum of Art and History (MOAH) is excited to host Arts, Science and the Built Environment: A Conversation, a panel that will merge together the thoughts, theories and processes of artists and scientists alike.
In conjunction with MOAH’s current exhibit Dark Progressivism: The Built Environment, curator Lisa Derrick will be moderating a conversation between exhibiting artists and members of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Los Angeles – Las Vegas chapter (AIAA LA-LV) in a first of its kind, community museum event. The talk will be held at MOAH on Sunday, December 10 from 2 to 4 p.m.
Art and science are more closely related than many realize. Art often leads the charge towards science by conceptualizing new worlds, theories, and perspectives while scientific technology inspires innovative methods for creating art by opening new doors to the imagination. The panel will explore the creative processes utilized by artists and scientists, the impact and effect of technology on art, art’s impact on scientific thought, and how both art and science shape our future on this planet, and potentially beyond.
Guest speakers will include aerospace scientist Dr. Nahum Melamed, author and space expert Rod Pyle, NASA/JPL certified educator Andrea Diamond, and Dark Progressivism artists Jason Hernandez, Fishe, and Doctor Eye. The afternoon will also feature a DJ set from Curt Barlage which will include sounds from the Voyager spacecraft and space themes from popular music.
The Lancaster Museum of Art and History is dedicated to strengthening awareness, enhancing accessibility, and igniting the appreciation of art, history, and culture in the Antelope Valley through dynamic exhibitions, innovative educational programs, creative community engagement, and a vibrant collection that celebrates the richness of the region.
