Scholarship sponsors invited to contribute cash scholarships to students at event

LANCASTER, CA – The AV Fair & Event Center will host the 17th Annual 4.0 Student Recognition Celebration in the H.W. Hunter Pavilion on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at 5:30p.m. for 4.0 students, their guests, sponsors, and school administration.

Approximately 580 local High School seniors, graduating with a cumulative 4.0 or higher GPA, will be recognized for their academic achievements from the twelve schools involved in the program: Antelope Valley, Desert Christian, Eastside, Highland, Lancaster, Littlerock, Palmdale, Paraclete, Pete Knight,  Quartz Hill, SOAR and The Palmdale Aerospace Academy.

There will be a keynote speaker and each 4.0 student will be recognized on-stage and presented with certificates from elected officials and local dignitaries.

Additionally, multiple cash scholarships will be presented by, or on behalf of, event sponsors via a drawing. Scholarship amounts start at $400.00, and 100% of each scholarship will be given to the student's name drawn.  The more scholarship money raised, the more students will benefit.  Scholarships will be announced in order of amount with the largest scholarship announced at the end of the exciting evening.  Currently, the 3 largest scholarships are for $2,000 each, courtesy of the office of Supervisor Kathryn Barger, Fifth District, Board of Supervisors, County of L.A.; Vallarta Supermarkets; and the AV Fair & Event Center.  Only students in attendance for the event and drawing will be recognized with certificates and be included in the raffle to win a scholarship.

Betty Smith, President of the Friends of the Antelope Valley Fair commented, "Together with the A.V. Fair Association, we are once again exited to celebrate the accomplishments of our local students that maintained a 4.0 (and higher) GPA throughout high school.  Scholarship sponsors are still needed.   We encourage local businesses, organizations and community leaders to support these young men and women for their commitment to excellence as they pursue their ‘post high school’ education and plans".

As part of the scholarship sponsorship, two representatives from each organization are invited to attend the Celebration.  These representatives will get the opportunity to meet and congratulate students on their achievements.  Sponsorship checks should be made out to Friends of the Antelope Valley Fair, Inc., and dropped off at the AV Fair & Event Center: 2551 W.
