Featured Day Trip ☀️🌼

🥾 Ridge Trails & High Peaks: A Wrightwood Escape
Location: Wrightwood, CA
[Get Directions ➔]

Good day local adventurers, Thomas here with another valley escape.

Just an hour and change from the Antelope Valley, Wrightwood is a quiet mountain town tucked in the Angeles National Forest, offering crisp alpine air, scenic hikes, and the first hints of the snow season at Mountain High.

While it’s best known for winter sports, Wrightwood holds its own year-round - with peaceful trails, cozy cafés, and a friendly, small-town vibe that feels like a reset button for your week.

Start your day with a hot cup at Village Grind, then hit a local trail. Blue Ridge Trail, Acorn Canyon, or a section of the Pacific Crest Trail offer everything from pine-scented strolls to challenging climbs with summit views.

For a relaxed walk, try Big Pines Nature Trail - a short loop that’s kid-friendly and filled with forest charm.

Wrightwood’s main street is lined with local gems: stop by Mountain Hardware (a surprisingly great spot for local info), browse handcrafted goods, or grab a bite at Evergreen Café. The whole town has a laid-back, mountain-weekend feel that never tries too hard.

Mountain High Resort is just around the corner from opening day - and if temps stay low, skiing and snowboarding could start as early as late October or early November. Whether you're a seasoned snowboarder or just here for après-ski and mountain views, it’s time to prep your gear.

While you wait for snow, ride the Scenic Sky Chair, or explore nearby mountain biking trails before they’re buried in powder.

Wrap up your day with a drink at Racoon Saloon or cozy up by a fire pit with mountain stars overhead. Fall weekends sometimes feature local art fairs, live music, or gear swaps as the community preps for winter.

Thomas’s Local Tips:
  • 🥾 Get an Adventure Pass – You’ll need one to park at most trailheads in the area.
  • ❄️ Check Mountain High’s Snow Report – Conditions change fast this time of year.
  • 🍳 Brunch lines are real – Hit Grizzly Café early if you want a seat.
  • 🧥 Layer up – Even if it’s sunny at the base, the temps drop fast at elevation.
  • 🚙 Chains may be required soon – Especially on Highway 2 during snowstorms.
Nature's calling, it's time to pick up... See you out there!
