Alright, let’s be honest - The BLVD Market is my weekly dose of feel-good. There’s nothing like cruising through fresh produce stands with that perfect early evening breeze rolling in. It’s more than just shopping - it’s catching up with neighbors, discovering your new favorite jam (food or music!), and soaking in that downtown energy.

Jackson Lake: The AV's Mountain Escape

Hi Fellow Outdoor Enthusiasts, Thomas here again with another exciting day trip idea. Surprisingly, many AV residents haven't discovered Jackson Lake in Angeles National Forest yet. It's just a 45 minute drive from Palmdale through Valyermo on Big Pines Highway.

During the summer, this spot offers fishing for stocked Rainbow Trout, swimming, kayaking, and paddleboarding with on-site rentals. You'll find picnic tables and restrooms for convenience.

My recommended trail: "Jackson Lake to Jackson Flats Observation Tower via PCT trail" via AllTrails – a challenging 7-mile hike with 1,700 ft elevation gain and spectacular views. Note that the Bridge Fire affected the back portion last year. Several alternative trails are available if you want to increase your mileage as the PCT also intersects with this trail.

After you've had enough adventuring for the day, coming back into town I always stop at Charlie Browns in Littlerock for some sort of a treat. Whether you're looking for BBQ, a delicious shake or candy, they've got it! Plus, you've earned it after burning all those calories!

Whether you prefer challenging hikes or lakeside fun & relaxation, this mountain getaway delivers it all.

Remember to always practice leave no trace principles.

• 🎟️ A Big Pines Pass from Mountain High Resort is required when parking here. The Adventure Pass and any of the Interagency Passes are not honored here. Parking also available along Big Pines Highway.
• ⏰ Hours: 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
• 📅 Summer lake rentals begin May 24th
• 🥾 Hikers: make sure to bring plenty of water and snacks for the uphill climb and proper hiking shoes with good traction.
• ☀️ Summer advice: Start early to beat the heat.
