y\nThe Lancaster Museum of Art & History (MOAH) and the Lancaster Museum a
nd Public Art Foundation (LMPAF) invite Antelope Valley residents and visi
tors to its newest exhibition LA Painting\, a survey of contemporary paint
ing in Southern California. The exhibit will be on display August 10th thr
ough October 20th\, and the opening reception will be August 10th from 4-6
  p.m\n\nLA Painting is a celebration of material\, mark-making\, and the h
uman experience\, boasting group exhibitions by three guest curators\, hig
 hlights from MOAH’s permanent collection\, a site-specific installation
by Erika Lizée and solo show by David Allan Peters. The Main Gallery\, cu
rated by writer Cooper Johnson\, surveys the last five years of contempora
ry painting in LA with artwork ranging from socially conscious figurative
works to “pure” abstraction. Performance artist Amy Kaps teams up with
painter Kaye Freeman\, expanding the painting plane to include the entire
East Gallery. Shane Guffogg\, the creator of the Circle of Truth project\
, displays his collaboration with 48 other artists in a painter’s versio
n of the childhood game “Telephone” in which each artist creates a pai
nting in response to the painting created by the artist before them.\n\nHi
ghlights from MOAH’s permanent collection will be featured throughout th
e museum. The mission of the permanent collection is to celebrate the rich
creative culture and history of southern California by preserving and dis
playing art made by emerging\, local\, and established artists significant
to the region’s unique cultural perspective.\n\nThe Lancaster Museum of
Art and History is dedicated to strengthening awareness\, enhancing acces
sibility\, and igniting the appreciation of art\, history\, and culture in
the Antelope Valley through dynamic exhibitions\, innovative educational
programs\, creative community engagement\, and a vibrant collection that c
elebrates the richness of the region. MOAH is located at 665 W. Lancaster
Blvd. and is open Tuesday through Sunday\, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.\, with e
xtended hours on Thursdays until 8 p.m. For more information\, visit www.l
