  for a powerful community celebration honoring culture\, freedom\, and un
 ity. This annual event brings together families\, local businesses\, and c
 ommunity organizations for an afternoon of entertainment\, food\, and conn
 ection.\n\nThe 2026 Lancaster Juneteenth event will include various fun ac
 tivities\, including educational programming on Juneteenth\, a morning wor
 ship service\, family-friendly games\, food\, music\, entertainment\, danc
 ing\, a car and bike show\, and so much more!\n\nWhile President Lincoln s
 igned the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1\, 1863 to “free all per
 sons held as slaves\,” it was not until two and a half years later on Ju
 ne 19\, 1865 when Federal troops marched into Galveston\, Texas\, that ens
 laved people in the last Confederate state learned of their freedom. This 
 important event\, followed by the passage of the 13th Amendment\, officia
 lly marked the end of slavery in the United States. Each year\, we reunite
  for what many call the second Independence Day in American History.\n\nFo
 llowing their emancipation\, reunions became a way for formerly enslaved p
 eople to reconnect with family members they had been separated from. Today
 \, reunions continue as a way to unite a community\, fellowship with famil
 y\, share information\, and celebrate one’s heritage.
